What Causes It Around Here
Most of the garage doors we get called out on in Waxhaw sit on houses built between 1974 and 2005
With the bulk of that stock going up in the 1980s and 90s across the nine neighborhoods that make up this area. That matters because a torsion spring has a rated cycle life, and a door installed when a house was framed in, say, 1991 is now three decades into hardware that was never meant to last forever. Openers from that era are on their second or third motor if anyone's kept up with them, and a lot haven't been.
Waxhaw sits in a cold-moderate climate band, not the deep-freeze end of the spectrum
But enough that winter mornings stiffen grease on rollers and tracks that sat untouched all summer. That combination - aging original hardware plus a seasonal cold snap - is the single biggest reason we get spring and roller calls between December and February. It's not dramatic. It's just wear catching up with a door nobody's looked at since it was installed.
